Obamacare Partners with The Onion. Seriously.

In an effort to boost enrollment numbers amongst young Americans in their 20s and 30s, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has enlisted the aid of satirical news organization The Onion to help push Illinois’ Obamacare initiative, Get Covered Illinois. The highly popular publication has partnered with Get Covered Illinois to utilize website ads, videos, and editorials to raise awareness about the state Obamacare program to the coveted “young invincibles” demographic.

As Chicagobusiness.com reports:

Gov. Pat Quinn is partnering with satiric news site the Onion to persuade young invincibles” to sign up for health care insurance — before it’s too late under Obamacare.

Beginning today, Onion Labs, the creative services division of Chicago-based Onion, will run banners ads on its website of a man forced to sell his action figures to pay his medical bills because he didn’t buy health insurance, according to a statement today from Get Covered Illinois, the state’s health insurance exchange.

So-called young invincibles, healthy people in their 20s and 30s, are crucial to balancing out the costly sick and elderly people buying plans on the Illinois health insurance exchange.

“We know that to effectively reach Young Invincibles — who are 53 percent of our uninsured residents in Illinois — we have to work with non-traditional, and especially digital, sources for news and entertainment,” Jennifer Koehler, executive director of Get Covered Illinois, said in statement. “That’s where the Onion fits right into our outreach strategy.”

The Onion also will create a video, an editorial and a customer “news” section about Get Covered Illinois that will appear online as the March 31 deadline to buy health insurance approaches.

“This is a great opportunity for Onion Labs to work with Get Covered Illinois, and do what the Onion does best — create irreverent-yet-relevant comedy and put it to work for an organization that wants to reach millennials,” Onion CEO Steve Hannah said in the statement.

Obamacare is utterly toxic. We can practically smell the fumes. I believe that most “young invincibles” have at least some inkling of the following: that Obamacare is about transferring wealth from youngsters to oldsters. It is about placating the far more powerful elderly voting bloc at the expense of the much weaker youth voting bloc.

The fact that governmental figures are now trying to hock Obamacare through the power of sheer comedy says to me that they understand how dire the situation is becoming. Without sufficient young enrollees, Obamacare will collapse much sooner than later. They desperately need young people to hose in order for the program to function. If they can’t rope enough young dopes into the program within a timely manner, the government could suddenly find itself facing a lot of angry seniors lacking their promised insurance subsidies. This is the Democrat nightmare scenario, in this case. Pissing off the elderly voting bloc is akin to smacking a sleeping grizzly bear on the nose. You don’t do it without expecting major consequences.
