Edward Snowden Might Be Killed By Drones, Ron Paul Warns.

Ron Paul, longtime Libertarian and general harsh critic of U.S. Government policy, expressed concerns in an interview with Fox News that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden might become a target for assassination. As the Huffington Post reports:

I’m worried somebody in our government might kill him with a cruise missile or a drone missile,” Paul warned during an interview on Fox Business News. “I mean, we live in a bad time where American citizens don’t even have rights and that they can be killed. But the gentleman is trying to tell the truth about what’s going on.”

I don’t think for a minute that he is a traitor,” Ron Paul said of Snowden. “Everybody is worried about him and what they’re going to do and how they’re going to convict him of treason and how they’re going to kill him. But what about the people who destroy our Constitution? … What do we think about people who assassinate American citizens without trials and assume that’s the law of the land? That’s where our problem is.”

I think Snowden is largely safe. If the U.S. Government assassinated him, the public blowback would be huge. If he were arrested and put on trial, it would be a media circus; Snowden would have the world stage to make his statements. Even if he were secretly arrested and put on closed-door trial, someone would find out and blow the lid on the story. I think the U.S. Government position in the matter will be too dismiss Snowden as a petty traitor and crook, and wait the scandal out until the Public largely forgets. The Public always seems to forget such things after the headlines disappear.
